Volunteer Job: Cat Socializer
Location Arlington Shelter
Purpose To socialize, groom and interact with cats. Maintain cleanliness of litter pans while socializing and playing with the cats. Observe and make appropriate notes on their behavior. Interact with the public.
Requirements Love of cats and kitttens. Excellent communication and people skills.
Duties
• Socialize and comfort the cats, play and visit with them. Write notes on their daily log about their personality and behavior and physical observations.
• Update or create short, positive descriptions for kitties using our online database.
• Ensure that any visiting clients use hand sanitizer before and after handling a cat
• Scoop litter boxes periodically or change the litter completely if needed.
• Periodically check to make sure all cats have fresh water and toys.
• Refill food bowls per standard procedure as needed.
• Sweep the floor clean of litter and keep the adoption room tidy.
• Check to make sure bedding is fresh and dry and replace if a cat has spilled its water and soaked it.
• Clean and organize the cat supply area - refold and organize cat blankets and bedding.
• Assist the public: answer questions and send them to the appropriate staff person or volunteer for additional information or to fill out adoption applications as well as “lost” or “found” animal paperwork. Refer the public to Purrfect Pals brochures and newsletter at the front table.
• Make new adoption packets for future adoptions
