ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PRIMARY JOB PURPOSE include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Purrfect Pals provides a no-kill sanctuary, foster, and hospice care for homeless cats. Purrfect Pals works to end overpopulation through humane education, spay/neuter programs, and permanent placement in quality homes. Founded in 1988, Purrfect Pals was originally a boarding facility for cats.  Today the sanctuary is home to over 250 cats. The sanctuary prides itself in providing spaces for feral cats, cats with leukemia, cats with FIV, and cats with behavioral issues. The organization also adopts on average 2000+ cats a year and provides medical care on site.

The Clinic Lead will supervise the clinic staff and work with the staff veterinarian in the care of our sanctuary cats, cats in foster care, and cats being evaluated for adoption including surgery prep and surgeries. The person in this position will also assist contract veterinarians in high volume spay/neuter clinics offered both to feral caregivers and the general public. Duties will include patient care, assisting in surgery, and all other animal care functions as well as other tasks involved in the operations of a shelter hospital.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS & MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for supervising clinic staff in all functions related to the daily operation of the clinic, including scheduling, assisting with training, and insuring that all clinic functions operate smoothly.
  1. Responsible for inventory and ordering of clinic and shelter supplies in a timely manner
  1. Responsible for monitoring and proper tracking and documentation of all controlled substances used in the clinic.
  1. Responsible for assisting the veterinarian while making regular rounds and assessing the health of the resident cat population.
  1. Insures that proper procedures are followed during intake of new cats including administration of vaccinations and blood draws as appropriate. Assesses new cats with respect to general health and need for additional procedures..
  1. Observes and evaluates animals for signs of illness and follows up appropriately
  1. Assists staff and contract veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures, including high volume spay/neuter, dental, and other surgeries as required. Performs routine dental prophylactics procedures as directed by a staff or contract veterinarian. Administers and monitors anesthesia as required..
  1. Administers medications, both orally and by injection, as required
  1. Insures that all medical procedures performed are documented in the Purrfect Pals data base.
  1. Works and communicates effectively with staff, volunteers, and foster care givers. Insures that proper instructions are provided and understood when follow-up care will be administered by staff, volunteers or foster care givers.
  1. Responsible for cleaning kennels and general sanctuary cleaning as required.

  1. Excellent Communication skills.
  1. At least one year supervisory experience.
  1. Clinic experience in an animal hospital/shelter setting.
  1. Ability to perform initial examinations and recognize potential health issues and behavior problems.
  1. Experience in the administration of medications, blood draws, administration of anesthesia, and performing dental prophylactics.
  1. Organized and capable of working in a fast paced environment with an ability to multi-task.
  1. A passion for animals, particularly cats.
  1. Interest in learning and developing new skills.
  1. Computer literate.
